I have never tried to transfer a .ca domain name after expiry. I have a .ca that I just sold (at liquidation prices) - it is now 3 days expired and at Dynadot. I can still renew it there, but is it necessary to renew for it to transfer out to another registrar? On the Whois I see it now says...
