Got an offer of $1000 on an LLL that is also a popular & meaningful dictionary word, a first name, and a last name, and thus of course used in many existing business names.

They claimed this was their best offer and that since I bought it in TBR I should just take the profit.

The fact that they know enough about TBR means they're not naive about domains, which is what begins to make it laughable.

The fact that the offer came from the infamous Daniel Mullen, who has certainly been around long enough to know better is what made it truly laughable.

I can't remember ever having received offers from him before (netnic.ca address) Anyone here ever deal with him?

He's been around the block a few times.

I'm pretty sure he knows the value of domains so he's probably just testing the water.
I replied to him with:

You've been around long enough to know that offer is ludicrous.

And yet he still was confident enough to reply back with:

You are clearing over $900 for being on the TBR and should be happy with that.

However, he's clearly out of touch with TBR to think that a domain like that would have been purchased for $100 or less just because it was in TBR. Trust me, this domain would have went for way more than $100 in TBR even 15+ years ago.

Yeah, that buyer knows the value of domains. Longtime domainer.
I know his name from reading many CDRP cases, but I don't have any record of him ever trying to buy a domain from me before.

UPDATE: I was mistaken, a different search did dig up some correspondence in the past, when he wanted to buy unlimitedinternet.ca from me. He claimed to be having money problems, but he wanted the domain for his ISP service. I must have been in a good mood because after some back and forth, he made a fairly low offer, one I don't think I'd normally accept, and I agreed for some reason, maybe to be nice or as an attempt to get to know him. But then he ghosted me and never bought it anyways, lol.

Apparently, this is him: https://www.danielmullen.ca/

Lol, now the guy demands I show him the auction results to prove that I paid more than $100 USD for it. And then he threatened a CDRP.

I vastly over-estimated this guy's domain knowledge, it turns out he's nothing more than a complete idiot.

BillSweetman @MaiTaiMan have you ever actually dealt with this guy? Or do we just all know of him from his numerous CDRP losses?

I don't even engage with abnormals like this as it's just not worth it. One reply to an email and you're dragged into their madness-encrusted world.

I find this veryyy strange. He can't be that dumb or oblivious... and it's somewhat shocking he's trying to pull this on you specifically. I actually figured you guys were probably buddies or had some kind of friendly rapport as longtime domainers.

He's obviously just spam mailing people hoping that meaningless threats scare a few newbies into selling premium domains to him at lowball prices.

I bought a domain from him (for a client) in 2016 and transaction went smoothly. That was the only significant interaction I have had with him. Very knowledgeable guy about .CA domain ecosystem and the various players.

A lot can change in 7 long years.
