December 13th is going to be a great drop

So much so that I decided to open a topic much in advance

I do wish the CIRA would wait a bit to add them to the main list, as it royally screws things up when viewing on their site.

How did AlphaRomeo.ca make the list?

Hehe.... maybe there is an alpha male romeo in Canada :ROFLMAO:

That said, I'm just happy the Hot Picks and Diamond Picks are updated, it was getting pretty stale lately with WHC not updating anything until a few days ahead. Now here we are two drops forward and we have the picks already. (y)(y)(y)

I believe this is the first LL.ca of the year... any guesses what it will sell for, $8k+ I'm guessing?

rlm with an "L"

But yes, rm.ca would be a huge win for him.

Eh, what am I going to do with rm.ca? Nothing. So I'd only buy it as an investment, that's it, no sentimental value for me.

And I can assure you that an LL is like buying a $10K lottery ticket. Got a bunch of them at $10 way back? Awesome. But owning one or two that took real money to buy? Good luck ever selling one in your lifetime. You need a large enough portfolio to average down that luck factor into something that generates a reliable return.

Would you want to buy 100 of them for $10K each? That's a million bucks. Then you've gotta wait a decade or more to sell a bunch of them to break even. Does anyone really want to do that?

See that the .com is owned by a UK company with offices in Ireland, India, Australia and Singapore. They don't own the equivalent ccTLD for any of them.

I own a couple where the equivalent .com is owned by massive long established brands. Not a single serious inquiry. No matter how much you think it makes sense for them to buy it from you, odds are they won't.

So spend all you want on a rogue LL, but please only spend money you don't ever need to see again. You're probably better off taking the kids on a nice trip to see the world rather than bequeathing them an LL.ca.

THANK YOU. I've been scratching my head wondering how someone who isn't an end user justifies paying such a high price and considers it a solid investment. This is just gambling and you can't tell me otherwise.

I tried buying a two letter .ca a few weeks back and I would gladly have paid 10k for it. I was actually going to put the domain to use but knew the aquisition cost would be much higher. So I'm exactly of the opposite opinion, whoever gets it for that gets a great deal.

That said I do agree, you have to have the disposable income to gamble with domains in that price range.

Honestly, I think a lot of the high TBR wholesale prices are just people with a lot of money who don't mind tossing it around. It's more a status thing and also ensures that the "unwashed masses" don't get anything cheap.

But in terms of real-world finance, RLM is exactly right, as no one in their right mind is laying $10K down on RM.ca as a sane investment vehicle with a definable payout in X years. Domains are likely the most random investment vehicle in the world - no one knows what's going to sell or when, and you could conceivably hold RM.ca for several lifetimes before a sale happens.

For example, I spend a not-insubstantial amount of money on the TBR, but about half of my most recent sales have been $8.88 CD bargain buys from last year (and I don't even own that many). There is no rhyme or reason, as I never expected any of them to sell, but it just happens that way.

Exactly! Unless your bankroll is massive, having $10k tied up in a single acronym is rough. At least with 3L's you can buy a bunch and over the years one or two might hit. All this being said, I would LOVE to join the exclusive 2 letter club lol.

This pretty well describes .CA domains in general.

While that is true for any high wholesale priced .ca, LL's seem to be the extreme example. They're very limited, less than 676 due to CIRA reserved/restricted ones. Scarcity drives the average price expectations into 6-figures and few companies are willing and able to spend 6 figs on a .ca. Even many who are able - are not willing. So I think its very different to buy a 100 domains at $100 and expect 20x return on individual domains than spending $10K on one domain and expecting 20x return.

So I'm exactly of the opposite opinion, whoever gets it for that gets a great deal.

Speaking as an end user, you're very correct. As an investor, not so much.
