Take steps to assure you're in for the bidding !!

federate.ca sounds like a good domain but the .com looks like its defunct as well.
federal rates? interest rate?

I predict a lot more of that, I have two other catalogs and will drop most of them. With renewal pricing over $10 there is a time to drop domains that have no action.

I remember saying that the price increases will affect renewals and I was only able to speak for myself, looking at the costs I decided to drop over 2000 of them from one catalog alone. These were part of acquisition buys but I renewed most of them until I could see a pattern in the traffic stats. Before I would keep the ones I liked without traffic but now I am much more inclined to drop them.

Seeing the increase in drops makes me believe I was correct in my assumption. All in all the price increases may actually be dropping CIRA's income instead of increasing it.

I’ve been dropping many domains also. I’ve also started renewing domains for 5 years or more if they’re domains I plan on renewing the following year. All and all I’m still spending the same annually and probably saving on future price increases.

I agree, as I usually never drop anything for at least 5 years or maybe more. But with the 10% jump in base renewal costs plus the grim economic conditions in Canada, everyone needs to be extremely diligent in only keeping the very best and most saleable .CA domains, otherwise you can easily get buried in renewal costs.

It's right on the CIRA TBR page (or you can download it) and that total is a bit high as it now includes some Monday domains - this week's TBR ended at 12,940 expired domains.

I thought for sure it would hit 13K.

Oh wow, I didn't notice the jump, last few times I looked we were slightly below 10k/week.

Ditto, especially when sales have slowed it only makes sense to drop the longer shot domains and keep the names that have gotten offers, or that get traffic, or that have good potential for one reason or another.

I think the higher registration/renewal prices are also going to cause more domainers with several hundred or more domains to take advantage of discount transfer specials, and the odd registration sales that come up throughout the year. Transferring from a registrar that's been ok or better is a hassle, but at a certain price it just makes sense.

You also have to think about the opportunity cost of the cash that goes into domains, and would some of it be better put into other kinds of investments right now.

After looking through 13K of .CA TBR names and finding a grand total of ZERO true premiums (sure-fire, singular 1-words or LLLs) I think I'm ready for glass of straight JD and then a nap. Sure, there's some very shiny Iron Pyrite on the list, but dat fake gold don't fools me!

It's like the .CA investment community decided to drop all the unsellable domains (especially those evil plurals) they've been holding for a decade or more, and if the higher .CA renewal rates are even partially to blame, I am a bit worried this trend may continue or even accelerate.

Oh well, I'm off to buy a few more .CA lottery tickets tomorrow and hope they cash in!! 🤞

It looks like the hot domains are in, and remember guys, take the steps to get an uplifting photograph and send it to the newsroom.
