GoDaddy Auctions introduces ID Verification

And speaking of getting verified (hey wasn't that just in TBR recently?)...

I've always thought that CIRA should abso-effing-lutely require KYC rules that registrars have to follow if they insist on keeping the CPR (Canadian Presence Requirements) - which incidently, I do agree with CIRA on keeping. My thoughts have always been to allow a registrar to charge a small one-time fee to cover costs of a verification per new registrant. Then any future registrations linked to that registrant would thusly not need additional verification or cost. Domain transfers would also incur this one time charge (as now its a new Registrar who doesn't necessarily know this customer). This would actually be incentive to most registrants to keep registration with their existing registrar - so its basically a customer retention feature for registrars.

Of course registrars who lazily duplicate new registrant-ids rather than re-using them might have to clean up their messes. Also not a bad thing IMHO.

Having had this discussion with a certain CIRA rep in the past, the indication was that CIRA's attitude is that the registrant is not their customer, it is the Registrar's customer, and therefore CIRA doesn't have the right to question a registrar's customer. I thought that was a joke of an answer considering CIRA makes the effing Registrar Agreement which they could easily amend and put into effect.

Ok sorry for getting sidetracked... But it is kinda relevant. I like knowing I'm dealing with verified buyers/sellers/registrants/whatever, so this may be one of the first good things GoDaddy has decided to do. Its time to clean up the shitshow that marketplace platforms have become.

I agree, either we lock it down proper or we open it up. I'm not one for the Loosey Goosey setup we have now.

As far as GoDaddy goes

I don't have anything there anymore so they won't need my credit card and I wont need to be verified.
