I discovered an issue with the way Whois records are displayed at GoDaddy that could be problematic for domain investors. I was made aware of this when DomainTools detected a Whois change for one of my domain names that hadn’t undergone any Whois updates. This is an issue GoDaddy is aware of, and I hope the company remedies it ASAP.

All of my domain names are registered / owned by my company, Top Notch Domains, LLC. Within the individual settings page, I can see the Whois information correctly shows my company name and other contact information. You can have a look at how I would like the Whois record to look for SelfCare.com:

I work from home and have considered using my real Whois data but am not keen of having my home address displayed.

I don't mind the company info with sales@mapledots.ca but unless I rent a PO box the address part ruins it for me so I hide it all. It's technically irrelevant for me because the majority of my domains resolve to my landers so the contact info is there if anyone wants to start dialogue.

I do wonder though how many domainers lose a sale because they only have BIN at a marketplace and the potential client has no other way of contact. I had a sale where the client said they were so intimidated with the Godaddy lander the alternate domain was using that he was relieved to see my lander. He said I was patient and polite and that factored into his decision to purchase my domain instead.
