TBR Drop - Aug 20, 2025 (1.Viewing)

What a zany run on the TBR today, and from my list, some unusual names showed as winning domains I had ranked pretty high. Win times are getting slower per tier and I'm wondering if some of the "big guns" are dropping their TBR links. Either that, or there was some mass front-loading going on.

not sure what you mean, but MY results above suggest WHC didn't do very well. I know we had more "too early" results today, and the last time WHC seemed to do poorly, it looked like that (too early) was their problem.

The point being that WHC is big enough that their getting out of sync probably messes everyone up as CIRA can quickly throw out all their too-early requests instead of being bogged down checking registration statuses. -Tom

Agreed but the timing results for WHC looked even worse than the last time, and it might be a combo of "too early" + "front loading" that caused it. And MyID didn't win a single domain off my list. You guys did okay, at least in relation to the domains I wanted, and you won a couple I was outbid on.

Does BareMetal.com have auctions with the domains you were able to secure? If so, are any public or only with the people who paid for the catch?

When there are auctions a BM customer can request to join them, but other than locks.ca being extended (currently at $2250), I'm not sure there are any this week.

And note that it only goes to auction if at least 2 people bid $200 before the TBR session starts. Otherwise the highest bidder gets it outright, for the second highest bid price. Its a bit weird.

Me too, as I think Tom runs the TBR the right way, with give and take for both sides, while WHC is more take and take with some give if you happen to be the only bidder.

I know that now, but on my system the WHOIS stated WHC was the registrar right after the run (~3;02 to 3:05) so without the TBR data (which is released at 4PM), that's all I had to go from. But since WHOIS errors and old resident data is standard for post-TBR runs (BM had some last week) I should just wait and look again later to see if it refreshes.

This was an old Daniel Mullin name at WHC (he seems to be dropping a LOT of domains), so it's just old data that hadn't been refreshed.

There seems to be more to the story than him simply dropping domains. I was very worried about him when I saw his domains hitting TBR early this year and contacted someone whom I thought would know about him. I was told that they were aware of it and could not comment on it. So I went digging........

And FactoryDirect.ca sold for only $100 and looking at various SEO/backlink sites it's apparent that in 1.5 years since FD closed, a LOT of these links have expired or been deleted. The fresher, the better I guess, but still, $100?
 
Not much activity at WHC on the regular "inventory domains" auctions, but they again picked up some nice cash on the "SEO/Traffic Domains" side of things (other than babytoys.ca).
