Here's their post from LinkedIn:
It finally happened! Givers is now the proud owner of givers.comIt finally happened! Givers is now the proud owner of givers.com
On top of the domain squatter demanding 6 figures when we initially connected a couple of years ago, I always rested easy on the belief that the domain name is just vanity. We were generating plenty of traffic and business without it, and the impact on SEO is negligible.
But over time, my belief that the domain was just a nice-to-have changed. I realized a few things:
1. The more we invest in awareness, the more important it is that caregivers can just get to our website. Our whole existence is about removing burdens from caregivers, and dropping a confusing domain name is part of that.
2. Most people not in tech took our domain name at face value and associated it with our brand. I've had countless conversations with local partners where I needed to clarify that we are "Givers" not "JoinGivers."
3. Perhaps most importantly, owning the domain is a matter of pride and conviction. We're incredibly proud of the company and brand we are building, and when you have full conviction, not owning the domain just doesn't make sense.
Thankfully, a couple of years of patience can do a lot for a negotiation. The seller, who is in his 70s, said he might need Givers himself one day. I told him we'd take care of him.
Anyone else who went through a similar evolution?
