Supreme Court declines to hear cybersquatting appeal

The U.S. Supreme Court has denied an appeal in a cybersquatting dispute over trx.com. Had the court heard the case, it could have had significant ramifications for how the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA) is applied.

Loo Tze Ming bought the domain name trx.com for $138,000 in April 2022.

Interesting case because the owner of TRX.com lost his UDRP but kept the domain via a court challenge.

Outcome, he even won a monetary settlement.

Having gone to court a number of times when I ran a Mercedes-Benz franchise I always had an invoice made up and if the judge ruled for me I asked the judge if I could present my invoice to the other party for time spent and I usually added up all legal costs and $300 per hour for my time.

I never lost a case in the 13 times I was called and my invoice was accepted in the majority of times.

Yeah, like the Supreme Court is going to start hearing appeals of a proper court decision that corrected a very-controversial (i.e. wrong) decision by a UDRP panelist who was either drunk, insane, stupid, or on-the-take, that allowed a party to effectively steal a very valuable domain name. I can hear the laughter from the Supreme Court as they evaluated that appeal.

That was one of the craziest UDRPs I've ever read that panelist should be barred by the IPO from any future cases.
