Saw the first name Andy on Sedo

At 5k USD one may contact via whois and offer 5K CAD as a straight deal without Sedo.

There is money to be made on that name if you can get it economically

Many names on sedo in that range….they are still for sale for a reason. You’d be surprised how many popular first names are available for 5K and less.

Just like John.ca and Martin.ca and countless others. They’re either dead listings on sedo or owners that realize it’s very difficult to sell first names. I’ve picked up dozens of first names all under 1K.

Exactly…and if you’re a domainer you can get many names for 5K.

Moe.ca
Jimmy.ca
Dean.ca

And many more…..some not listed but you can easily get under 5K. I know because I’ve done it…over and over. First names are not an easy sell.

John sold to a domainer at 5k usd and there is lots of room for profit.

Andy can probably be negotiated down

My opinion is that almost all COMMON first names have a retail value of a minimum 10k

You just need to hold them until someone needs it.

So if you have a bunch that you picked up at 1k I think you got a sweet deal but it is not an indicator of what they are worth. I challenge you to pick up a common first name .ca today for that.

So yes you did well picking them up but the after covid times are much different now and first names will easily fetch 1k on tbr and the common names will probably go much higher.

I’m not trying to be a downer about .CA’s just trying to be as realistic as possible. If you’re going to go spending 5K each on domains like John.ca. You’re going to be spending a lot of money with potential no break even point.

People don’t realize that 5K today is not 5K in 10,20 or 30 years. I would not be happy with purchasing a domain for 5K and selling it for 20K in 20 years. That’s a loss to me. If you’re playing the domain industry like a lottery ticket you may make money or you may lose. It may work for you but that strategy is not the way to make money. My humble opinion….and John.ca is just an example. I actually think it was decently priced if your name is John of course. :)
