I know what you mean, as with the massive influx of people into Canada + inflation (some real, some predatory) many businesses are absolutely raking in the cash. That's the big negative of living in a country that supports a monopolistic economic system, you always pay for it in the long run and the bill is coming due.
I'm not sure I agree with you that competition will ever really equalize, no more than I believe we'll ever catch up on housing, as the numbers are just too high. I think with 1.2-2.5 million people a year pouring in over the next decade (unprecedented numbers that exceeds 'raw' US population growth - 1.26 million last year), you'll be lucky to afford a loaf of bread.
Our resident Prime Minister Galen Weston will sure be happy though, sitting on his private island counting his billions.
P.S. I was in line to pay at the grocery store and I heard a lady telling someone that her doctor of 30 years deleted her from his patient list because she hadn't been into the office in a while. Too many people, not enough doctors, and I guess if you're not "sick enough", they can find someone who is to fill your place.
