This weeks "TO BE RELEASED" auction saw Canoe.ca sell at $48,000 CAD at myID auction.

It was one of the highest TBR sales in recent memory and you can read about it here:
TBR-Drop-Jan11 - (you must login to read in the TBR section)

It was a long hard auction and a member of DN.ca finally bowed out at $47,000 with an unknown buyer closing the deal at $48,000.

There is a well known Canadian website running at Canoe.com and speculation is the domain sold to the owner of that site PostMedia.

The domain canoe.ca is currently not resolving and shows on hold at whois but we will be following it closely to see who the end user is.

There is a small chance it could be a domain investor but that would prove to be a huge gamble with most investors not willing to allocate that much to one .ca domain.

Interesting times, it most certainly made for one of the most interesting topics on dn.ca and the second most responded to topic on our forum.

Very unlikely to have been bought by owner of .com. Great domain.

Who gets the domain if the highest bidder doesn't pay?
Does it go to the endless bottomless myid pit?

I assume so, as I've seen some of these I was actively bidding on remain in "MyID Hold" for a very, very, very long time.

Yep. Same with autonet.ca from the previous week
I never knew Bodis provided a lander with this specific wording. I have seen the "for sale banner" but not this specific one.

If it can be a verified sale, should be reported to DN Journal weekly sales report. Love these mid 5 fig and higher one word .ca sales.

Buyer could be Canoe Financial out of Calgary.
I doubt it since they seem to own CanoeFinancial.ca and are doing nothing with it - Not even forwarding. But I could be wrong.

It’s a great domain and very interested to see who the new owner is. Something to note also is that the price with HST put this domain over $54K.

Zero Click is alive and well on Autonet.ca, use extreme caution, every so many clicks it asks you to click some shady stuff.

Edit: Nevermind, today it goes to a Bodis Lander

Could it be that Bodis is serving Zero Click?

And I see Bodis is still serving a blank page to people with ad blockers.

Just saw this. Couldn't have thought of a better use. :ROFLMAO:

Whoever owns canoe.ca has to seriously reconsider the marketing, you can't combine random words. Spending $48,000 with no solid plan was not the wisest move.

I think there is a lot of this going on during the recent "Restricted Domain Madness" and people are just buying to buy, without any clear picture on what their endgame really is. A lot are just playing the old "outbid everyone" game rather than having a multi-tiered plan.

A lot of the recent TBR auction prices I am seeing make absolutely no sense if the buyer is not a) an end user or a b) a rich hobbyist.

Buying .CA domains is not "fun and games" and with such a tiny market (and assuming you're not independently wealthy), you need to be on your toes 24/7 or these will bury you quick.
