Does .com stand for company or commercial?

Depending on who you talk to that debate has been raging for years with very knowledgeable people declaring each one correct. So far there has been no clear winner in this debate.

Here is an article by James Iles from JamesNames.com that might finally shed some light on it...

Or does it? *NO*

For me, the original meaning was commercial when I first learned about domains and registered my first one, in 1995.

When .COM first started up, it was for Commercial and that's a fact Jack.

Yup, it was to relate to a commercial activity.
