A few years back I sold the domain NowStore.ca for $35,000 CAD.

Granted I did help the owner with his online store but really no more than a few hours here and there. I also guided him to which software and payment gateway to use.

So like most new businesses the owner closed the site down during covid to focus on another venture.

The plus on this one is because I helped with the administration the domain sat in one of my Godaddy accounts.

To my surprise the owner said he no longer has a need for the domain and I can have it back. So along with it he also had a few other not bad domain names and I was gifted them all. His way of saying thanks for helping him.

Not to be ungrateful, but he had some decent value there but saw no potential in making any money on the domain.

Am grateful to receive the domains but still surprised how many business owners see no value in domains

That is a great price for that one. Was it a BIN or some negotiation?

That is still the case unfortunately. It’s also hard to convince someone how valuable a domain could be.

I like to use the analogy that a good short, easy to remember domain name is comparable to a store at a busy intersection. A not so good name, hard to type and remember is comparable to a store out in the boonies.

Everything for me is a negotiation, that rarely changes.

Funny part is they saw value in spending $35k on a domain but not enough to hang on to it once the business closed. Even the other domains in the account were some really nice ones.

You see that sometimes in .com where an excellent .com gets dropped and it creates a feeding frenzy in the aftermarket. Everyone thinks it was a mistake it dropped but really the owner did not care past his original use of the domain.

Jeez, that was a very good price for that domain. Its great that you were so good to him though (but then again, you feel a little obligated to help out after a good sale, I know I do). But in any case, the good karma came back to you!
