Few key points:

* ROI of $42 for every dollar spent.
* Email is almost 40 times more effective than Facebook and Twitter combined in helping your business acquire new customers.
* It's one of the only channels you own the customer - unlike Facebook, Instagram and Twitter that decide WHO of your customers see your communications.

I don’t use the direct mail approach but you are right about “owning” the customer as opposed to other avenues.

It's nice when you can do an email blast and the orders pour in. We have taken a simplistic approach to email marketing in the past, but are about to kick-it-up-a-notch or two in the next couple of months.

Owning the customer is so important in this age when you have companies like FB, IG and Twitter controlling and limiting how often people that have signed up to your page, actually see your content. Once a customer or potential customer has given you their email address, you are in control and it's up to you to keep them engaged.

I agree, especially important for retail businesses to have a newsletter form on their webpage to build customer subscribers. If I've purchased from somewhere I don't usually mind getting one email every week or two. More than that and it can become a nuisance. I'm surprised when I see companies that don't do that.
