Look out below; the domain industry was just dealt another huge blow.

In September 2024, Google informed advertisers that new Google ad accounts would automatically be opted out of serving ads on parked domains.

That meant that the growth of new ads to show on parked domains would stop, and over time, there would be fewer advertisers showing ads on parked domains. This would suppress ad prices.

The bad news just got worse.

This change will impact you even if you don’t park on ad landers. Domain registrars that count on parking ads on “coming soon” pages to provide a bit of margin will feel the squeeze, which might ultimately result in higher registration prices for everyone.

That had better not happen, registration prices are already starting to make it hard for some people.

The people making money from domain parking weren’t domainers. Also.

And from what I've seen, I'm glad they put an end to it. The keywords they targeted were always ones small businesses bid on (plumbers, HVAC, landscapers). I own a business in the trades. If I didn't know it was possible to opt out, I'd definitely be wary of spending my bucks with them.

I tend to disagree, in the heyday I made 2k a day from parking, have reports to back that up. But for a while now I felt that I was better off having a for sale sign than a bunch of ads.
