A little bird has told me that the GoDaddy DDC membership price is going to double on March 20th, so if you are a DDC member and plan to renew, you may want to renew before the 20th to save yourself some money.

If you don't know what DDC is, this post doesn't apply to you. ;+)

I have recently joined the NoDaddy club. Prices there are cheaper than GoDaddy even with their so called discount club. GoDaddy did not charge me for discount club because I have so many domains but even then I am saving thousands at other registrars.

Too bad because GoDaddy has the best bulk tools, but ultimately $1-2 per domain adds up fast.

Never thought I'd ever see a domainer say that, LOL. But yes, the GoDaddy tool set has improved over the years.

Looks like RichDaddy is trying to become a RicherDaddy.
Or trying to compensate for the loses due to recent changes?

I could basically select 500 domains and make any change in a few clicks. So far nothing has matched that for me.
Have you never used baremetal's tools? And I hate selecting checkboxes, I prefer pasting lists of domains into a bulk tool.

You can do the pasting with GoDaddy too but I select all domains, change nameservers and in one motion change 500 domains.

Want to change 500 whois, do it on one and all 500 are done.

Want to forward 500 domains to your lander, do it on one and select all 500, bam done.

Want to register 500 new domains, paste them in and done.

Seriously, godaddy finally has bulk done right but they do other things so wrong.

If I have a thousand domains at godaddy I should not need a discount club and luckily for me the rep always discounted it back to me but the hassle to make sure it gets done every few years annoyed me,

That said, WHC has a better price on .ca's than godaddy even with discount club, however discount club is cheaper on .com if you don't have to factor in the club charge.

I was willing to put up with everything from godaddy until the 25% no nameserver fee happened, then they lost me. I quit Dan, quit godaddy, quit afternic and quit godaddy auction. I put my money where my mouth was and the only thing I still have at godaddy are .ca's and .net's that I am letting expiry. I gave away all the .com's I did not want so they don't end up on their expiring platform. Fortunately GoDaddy cannot catch .ca's so that part is irrelevant and I can just allow them to expire.

When godaddy rethinks the 25% no nameserver part I may come back but until then it is NODaddy for me.

There does not seem to be a way to renew early? Mine renews April 11, and I just get an error when I try to renew now.

I was able to renew early in two different GD accounts yesterday. If you go to your products tab, and then find the DDC (search for "discount" on page), then click on the checkbox to the left, you can then click on "Renew" (or whatever the button on top says) and it should work. Worked for me. Disable VPN and try a private browser window if getting errors. Good luck!

I hope this is not becoming the norm for some greedy registrars. There should REALLY be a CIRA policy that if a client requests and pays for a renewal, that it MUST be executed immediately. My renewal requests and payments are NOT loans to an effing registrar to float their business. Businesses will renew for extra years specifically for SEO, or security, and you should get what you pay for. Its a horrible policy that can only go wrong, like a pyramid scheme, robbing peter to pay paul.

I've heard that WHC has been doing this.... @FM, can you tell me what WHC's policy is regarding renewing domains and then not executing the renewals? Are you really collecting payments from customers and then not actually renewing those domains??

Just to be clear, my original post was about renewing a domain discount club membership; was not about renewing domain names.

You're right, my bad. I just got on a tangent about an issue I recently found out about.

And it's an important issue, as people renew early because there is a reason behind it.

For example, I sold at domain at either Dan or GD (or maybe Sedo?) and it had 15-20 days left before renewal. When I put in the Transfer Code, the system rejected it with a "less than 30 days left before expiry" error, so I renewed it at WHC.

A few days later nothing had changed, so I had to go on chat and have someone manually process the renewal as they wait and only do it "5 days before expiry".

That’s messed up

they should send out a warning email in advance to let existing customers know, you would think!

Renewals made manually by the client should be applied immediately, but there might be a bug with this. I'm investigating this at the moment.

Good to hear that’s a bug and not policy, but still a little scary for anyone with domains at whc to think their domains may or may not renew…
