Both companies use 3 parts to their names, what makes them think they are automatically entitled to a single word?
Why does HK not go after America.com? or America.inc?

The whole system is slanted directly towards the corporations who are either already clients of the IPO legal industry or who might become clients later. Follow the money because it's always about the money.
That's why none of these nitwits tries to pry away a valuable domain from a larger corporation, because they'd get fried real fast and potentially be sued for significant penalties.
Like silentg says, it's easy to go after a domain investor as he or she is not paying anyone's salary.
