IATA codes cannot be Trademarked. I hope people don’t take this post literally as if you are able to dispute a domain if it’s an IATA code. That is far from the truth. It’s like thinking you can TM a phone number. Not gonna happen.

As long as you don't park or put up airport / travel related site.

Again, I disagree with this. You can put up whatever you want. Referring to YYZ is like referring to Toronto. You can start a website and call it YYZ travel and put up whatever you want. No different than websites having Toronto in their domain name.

Google any popular airport code and you will find websites with the airport code. The above CDRP of YCD was 100% theft. Plain and simple.

Hey , Sorry for delayed response but this has been hard, I don’t know where to begin…I feel this was aggressive and my words twisted . Half this stuff I don’t even recognize, I will start with a few points below and open this up to question. This is a start. (I’ve never seen a tone of this nature in any other decisions I have read)

-YCD.ca domain was never listed for sale anywhere. they approached me through CIRA using a Godaddy broker.
-domain was purchased in TBR auction with no knowledge of complainant
-I have been investing in domains for many years so I have legitimate rights to own a domain.
-I‘ve sold 3 letter domains for over 10k, so price was actually more than fair.

There is so much more but for now I’ll just say thanks for all the posts and If anyone has questions I will try to answer them

Chris

Yet it does happen even though the domain owner did nothing wrong.

The problem with the system is it gives too few people a lot of power. I have done a lot of research since that CDRP and have pretty much found it should be impossible to take a IATA code from a registrant. Even if there were airport ads due to being parked; we all know most registrants had no control over that and potentially no knowledge of it. The fact a domain could be taken that easily by panelists is shocking. Unfortunately the domain is not worth enough to fight over as it’s a small airport. It doesn’t make it right though. That domain was stolen.
