my .ca tops (1.Viewing)

I own a list of .ca domains that are related to industries I work in or understand well. Herein are my tops.

*dredging.ca* (I co-owned a dredging company that has now moved its business to South America) the domain is a natural fit to what we do. Some day, I hope to return to the Canadian market; but for now, the industry is dominated by Huge companies I can no longer compete with (Bid bonds, perfomance bonds, insurance e.t.c) but I am holding out on this one. Its the one that brings the most serious of inquiries.

*dredges.ca* (We've sold all our Canadian dredges but 1. If I could do start all over again, I would build dredges. Seen how much those things cost lately?) Even a dredge brokerage service on this domain would hit big. For those who don't know, the dredging business is a HUGE industry and Canada is known to for its craftmanship in the sector.

*digitaltwins.ca* (its the future that beacons with this one. I envisioned industrial pumps that are mirrored in the cloud. That way, they can be deployed remotely without keeping a man around. One could monitor pump state and even diagnose and schedule repairs before things brake down. For someone in my line of business, digital twins will change the way we do things. I even hear about digital twins of entire cities and human centered ones.

*dewater.ca* I use this for my email. My old Canadian business that got sold. (Just noticed some bugs. Will get down to it and fix it)

What I wish to own: pumps.ca

I understand completely, I own a number of businesses and therefore some corresponding domains.
I keep those on my private list but I can tell you I have some beauties.

I think a lot of us register what we understand or are comfortable with.

Personally I do not feel comfortable with adult names in my portfolio and I own 4sex and sexc.
Wanted to drop them a few times but something keeps stopping me.

Now you see why i am crazy about it. It would fit well into my portfolio. I build pumps all the time. The thing with pumps and all other related industrial services, people search "pump for sale in Canada or "Dewatering Pumps" or "dredging in Canada" so having the direct type in brings authority and business.

Yes sir. I don't do the sex domains but I sure would hold on to 4sex so renew it longterm and forget about it.What I have learned is that domains are a good longterm investment. I have sold a ton of .com's that some experts (when I was learning told me won't bring a penny only to sell them 5 years later for 5 figures. I am sure most of you have had domains that have not had an inquiry for years and one day, someone just hits the bin price. It happens to me all the time. But ofcourse I have a lot of time on my hands to educate myself. The best domain in the world is the one that you can personally use. Make that thing that stops you from dropping be "I could use this domain any day". Yeah I will keep contributing. Good cause here going.

Is there a BIN price range that works best for you, or are your prices all over the map? I've read that the $2500 to $7500 range is pretty popular.

Don't listern to that stuff. Every one has what works for them. I price my domains based on its commercial application. You really put a price on there and only the "high valueing" prospect comes. Domaining is really a patient investors game. Just figure out what to hold and what not and that takes experience and a luck of fuzzy feelings for your portfolio. I have never sold a domain to anyone I had to push it down to and I have never done out-bound sales either. Same applies to forums; I have never sold a domain on forums.

All I do is buy domain, list eem on either godaddy or dan.com, and my jewels I put my own landers on and bagger off to something else. One day my phone chimes and walla I say yes or no. I can even tell you that domains that I put my own sales landers on sold for much more money that the ones on the aftermakerket (most of them are relisted by domainers).

I have picked up domains on forums too only to turn around and sell them lots of times more than what the impatient investor sold it for so question becames, what is your time worth? Remember, any domain that has commercial application is someone else's opportunity so why not make it yours too?

Yeah, I never understand it either. Trying to sell in a forum is the equivalent of saying: a) I give up b) I need cash, or c) these domains are such crap that I'm willing to take anything for them before I let them expire.

I like my own lander too, to avoid having a middleman limit my ability to negotiate. My lander is just a simple contact form. Nothing really about making an offer. One thing I might start doing is putting a minimum offer price though, to eliminate some of the small timer inquiries. The other problem is I get random inquiries from people who are confused - asking for support from a company that I'm clearly not... A more clear "make an offer" lander with a minimum offer would get rid of all that. I also find that I should probably have someone help me make a french language version of the lander too, I get the odd request in french.

This is something I plan to do in the future, and using landers does have its benefits. Personal contact with buyers is paramount in big money deals, and it limits expenses/commissions on easy lower-dollars transactions.

That is, once things cool down around here and get back to a semblance of normal.

I don’t think I would necessarily agree with this. In some instances, sure,maybe you haven’t had any success moving a domain so let someone else have a crack at it, but most i’m sure hope that this forum will draw endusers exposure as well.
Otherwise not really much point in having/using a Sell Domains section if we’re just anticipating shuffling amongst ourselves.

I agree with jaydub on this one

I probably will not be advertising my top domains here but I will showcase them in topics or mention them on occasion because you never know whos sees them.

But....

More obscure ones, in the up to 5k range, why not, you never know who will nibble. Also the ones I am sitting on the fence on for renewing, I can let them go super cheap before they hit tbr.

Okay I went through that stage where I get all sorts of offers and in my opinion, its okay. It gives me incouragement to know that someone cares about a domain in my portfolio. I am sure some of you have had someone come in at $500 only to pay $20K after a communications channel has been established. What I would do to eliminate confusion is to be clear on top of the page that "This domain is for sale". Make the fonts large enough that someone would not mistake it for a support form. You see, I use 3 types of landers.

1. The broker assisted landers like the godaddy/afternic landers (your domain shows in results of top registers) but price is not shown on landing page. Example: shorturl.at/lHPV2
2. Secondary market landers (this includes my own landers as they follow same rules): *dan.com* example shorturl.at/fEKNT
3. My tuckaway list (Usually exclusive lists i am not ready to sell or value highly: https://digitaltwinx.com and won't be pushing around

The idea in all is to have different streams of potential inquirers and eliminate confusion. Hoping this helps. Number 3 works wonders on domains you're looking for big money. Inquirers respect domains that are owned by corporations so you rarely get low ballers.

My apologies. I should probably be linking on .ca domains but I wanted to give you a picture of what and how I do it. Will edit them later in the day.

I don't believe there will be any end-user traffic from a forum, if they haven't found you by visiting the domain, whois or a marketplace, they're not going to find you in a forum. I suppose the exception might be a domain where the ideal end user _is_ a domainer, like, dn.ca or whatever.

I'm just saying that trying to sell to a bunch of resellers is not ideal - this is a long term game. If you're willing to do it, it's arguably one of those a) b) or c) situations.

I suppose there are some guys who make a living just flipping and forums may be good for building a contact list, but, to make a living on flip commissions, you're probably dealing with .com sales, not .ca....

What I do agree with and might consider using, is this new flat-rate about-to-expire topic idea. We all make some questionable registrations and we all have different opinions about domain valuations, so letting some domains expire is something we all do. Flat rate means its a take-it-or-leave-it situation, avoids the negotiation games and minimizes time wasted for little return. I think that's why most people don't bother selling their expiring domains. I suppose not wanting to admit that you reg'd some crap you no longer want is another reason, and lastly, by the time they finally decide 100% to not renew it, its too late to try selling.

That's usually me, and I wait til the last day even on junk.

If one of my in-negotiation domains sales hits, then I use a portion to register everything for a few months anyway (saves me monkey-work time), and toss my coin back up in the air hoping it comes up heads this time.
