My first Dan transaction (1.Viewing)

Congrats, and I'm also becoming a proponent of increasing the min bids, as otherwise all you do is attract lowballers, who then waste your valuable time.

When I had a $20 min at GD, some days my phone would buzz all day long with this hammerheads clogging up the works.

Now all my minimums are in the 3-figures, and I got another 3 offers so far today, but I'm thinking of raising the mins a bit more to weed out the "higher-class of lowballer" who thinks he or she can buy a premium domain outright for $100-$200.

I want to get to a point where all my offers are from serious buyers, without turning off the buyers you can "drag up the tree" and extract a higher price from. Maybe $500 is a good compromise?

first sale on Dan looks like it's closing, for $1550 US

now a second Dan sale came in today, negotiated to $1875 US

Congrats [notify]domains[/notify] . We're these .CA's? We're you using DAN landers?

both .ca’s and using the default Dan landers. Had them fix priced (at higher than the sold amounts) with make offer button showing. Both probably started with lowball offers and moved up to the minimum offer amount. Don’t know if Dan shows the min offer amount or they have to figure it out themselves. So far the Dan process has been pretty streamlined, now will see how they are on the payout side of things.

Thanks. And congrats again, that's a hell of a couple days

Congrats on the sale *THUMBSUP*
Did you do Buy now? Buy now/offer? Payment plan?

The first sale completed yesterday, payment received today. That is super quick to get paid out on a sale.

No problems with the .ca change of ownership with Dan?
I don’t list my .ca’s there as I thought it might be complicated with them but it would seem that is not a concern…thanks for the detailed info *THUMBSUP*

It's all automated, they deal with the buyer afterwards and send them transfer instructions. You just unlock the domain and enter the auth code for them in the transaction window.

I was concerned about how the transfer would go, but now I've done two .ca's with them and both were quick on the buyer's side.

Probably two of the fastest sales I've ever done through a marketplace, based on time between accepting the offer to getting paid. Though I won't hold my breath that every sale would be like that, I'm sure some first time buyers take a while to figure out the transfer, or get around to doing it.

When an offer comes in to you, a window is created in Dan that is like a text chat on your phone. Just between you and the buyer, with options to accept, counter, or cancel. I think you can even write a message. Once a price is agreed, you just deal with Dan, and Dan deals with the buyer. Very slick and I like how they have set it up.

I agree it is pretty slick. Had the opportunity to use it on lowballs I received and used the message to reply to them as well.

Attempt #2 - I apparently just sold my first domain on Dan, using a Buy Now price. Maybe this time it'll be a real buyer?

I would have expected some sort of notification that someone was in the process of buying a domain, of course pending receipt of payment. I would have also expected there to be some delay for that payment and verification process. Yet my first notification was basically, "you sold your domain, we have their money, what's the auth code?" and when I entered it, it said they needed to wait on a live agent from amsterdam to complete the transaction (and it was already 22:45 amsterdam time, so probably will sit on ice until the morning).

So it just makes me wonder, did the buyer click "buy now" a couple days ago, collect his payment, verify the funds and wait to even tell me about the transaction until that was done? Or do you think they've just collected this guy's CC number and got an auth code, but were waiting on me to provide the auth code before actually charging the guy's card?

I mean, what if I had sold this domain already elsewhere and forgot to remove the listing (which is so common everywhere else)? I guess they'd just refund the guy, but you'd think they'd ask me to at least confirm the transaction before collecting the payment. Especially since I've never sold a domain there.

In any case - just wondering out loud here about Dan's internal transaction processing....

I believe if it's a BIN purchase you can be sure they paid and its a done deal (and they notify you right away after they check-out/pay), but if you have "make offer" set it may "sell" (if they or you accept an offer), but payment still remains pending and they could still possibly bounce and never pay.

Update:

1. I just realized I had sold another domain on dan previously... it was a $20 TBR domain for $1000 USD - completely forgot about it. So I lied, this was dan sale #2.

2. Now I think I'm being punked, as apparently I just sold another Buy Now domain on dan, so that's two domains in 90 minutes - although both look to be legit buyers.

3. Weirdly, this time I did get a series of 3 emails from Dan. The first said, I sold the domain, the second said payment received, the third said please submit the auth code. So that got me looking closer, and I found the other messages from Dan regarding the earlier sale, so there were three email messages for each transaction, all within the same minute. Not sure how I deleted and missed those earlier messages. My bad. Maybe I "pocket deleted" those emails from from my iphone?

Its been very slow lately - not just on sales but even on domain inquiries. But I find this very typical for summer time - everyone is focusing on family and enjoying the summer before it's over. But this morning I woke up to a $5K offer on a good domain, and a few other domain inquiries - none of which were the two buy-now Dan sales.

That's so typical of the domain business. You can literally go months without making a penny (while still spending a ton), then in one day you can make months or even years with of income in a day.

I've been getting a lot of $1K initial offers, but no one seems to want to go higher than $1200-$1300. Kinda weird as my min bid is usually in the $200-$300 range and these all seem like valid buyers. They just don't have the $$$ or are playing cheap - I suspect most are from the latter category, as they all have "their stories".

Oh well, I haven't had to break into my storehouse of KD... yet. :D

I hope your storehouse has these as well. This is my goto when I want a quick snack.

domains @domains, the sales are both through already, Dan is pretty quick about it.

So few other people post their sales, if everyone else did it, I might be more inclined to join in. Even when Esdiel @Esdiel tried to get people on board with that last summer I posted a bunch and in the end I think it was only Esdiel and I posting them for the most part.

Too many people here like to get free info, but then don't give it back in return. And I'm definitely not talking about you domains @domains... You're one of the few that is pretty open. But I'll shoot you an email with the details. They're nothing newsworthy, just good revenue and average return of 91x and less than a year hold time for all 3 Dan sales.

Overall, I haven't really found that Dan landers have increased my sales at all, as it took a pretty long time to register the first sale. And definitely fewer inquiries than I get on my own simple contact form. Factor in the commissions, and I still question if its worth using them - although I have to say the only upside is that the 3 sales were zero negotiating and zero effort sales, so that is a more scalable solution than me doing custom replies to all inquiries. Doing that definitely takes more time, but it also gives me the opportunity to interact, find out the points of resistance, be persuasive, offer payment options, etc...

I will also say that I've been testing Bodis landers as well, with the contact form as well as a bunch with buy-now prices and with the direct escrow.com linkage. I'm not sure any of those have ever made a sale. Only bogus buyers where they enter their info to start the Escrow.com transaction at my buy now price, but then they never follow through.

Unfortunately, my choice of using my owner landers, bodis landers or dan landers has been done pretty haphazardly, so in all honesty, I can't really derive any useful comparisons....
