It would also be nice if the link to New Posts took you to the actual new posts. Right now, if a topic has 3 pages and you click new posts, it takes you to page 1...

When you are done reading new posts click on the "mark all topics as read" link and then you will only get the page of actual new ones.

I hope I was understanding your question correctly

Also if you click on the date of the topic it takes you to the last post.
Clicking on the title takes you to the first post.

Yes, that does help - I'll click the date.

But - where is this secret "mark all topics as read" link?? I can't find it?

Look in my picture above, bottom right.

So when you click at the top of the forum to read new posts, when you are satisfied you read all the topics you want you click the bottom link as in the picture above and all topics are marked read. The next time you come back it will only show you new topics since you clicked that link.

If you want to peruse more you can go back and click on the "Active Topics" link which will show you all active topics ignoring your mark all topics read command.

ah, that "mark" link only shows when viewing the "new posts" link, nowhere else that I can find.

Yup you got it, the blue bars will always show your extended links like when you are moderating in your forum.

Also when you click search and you will notice the advanced search is in the blue bar.

So the main point is to look at the blue bars, the links change depending on what screen you are on.
