No More GoDaddy Member Auctions! (1.Viewing)

Although the current sentiment was that GoDaddy would close down Afternic and take over their role, the truth is exactly the opposite and it's GoDaddy who will be cutting out member auctions to concentrate on Expired Auctions.

As of April 29., GoDaddy will not longer be accepting the following auction types: 1) Offer/Counteroffer, 2) Buy Now and 3) 7-day Member to Member auctions. Existing auctions will continue until their end date.

Going forward, Afternic will now assume the duty of handling these auction types and Afternic domain auction listings will continue to be available through GoDaddy search.

Here's an informative tidbit that wasn't in the email:

All Buy it Now and Offer/Counteroffer listings will be taken down from GoDaddy Auctions on May 13th, 2024.

Well I guess that puts me right on time, I had just removed them from Godaddy so I'm all set.
From my personal catalog I am now completely devoid of any GoDaddy products, listings, domains etc.

I started my big change over with the 25% commission announcement and my shift away is now complete.

Just wondering exactly how late GD transactions will be handled? The notice states that "time will be given" to these, but exactly what does that mean?

Scenario 1: Let's say a buyer agrees to my offer on May 10 but doesn't get it paid by the 13th, what happens?

Scenario 2: I sell a domain on May 10 and it gets paid on May 12 and the payment is not authorized before the dashboard disappears on the 13th, what happens?

And "what happens" revolves entirely around the numerous statements in the blog post that the GD Seller Dashboard will disappear on May 13, thus eliminating the usual method of completing sales.

I understand that a paid sale (scenario 2) could easily be completed via broker email, but what about scenario 1 where the domain hasn't even been paid for. What would happen if 10 days later you sold it on another venue and then 29 days later GD sends you a "payment received" email. :oops:

And yes, that will probably happen to me. :rolleyes:

I am hoping the GD Seller Dashboard will remain active for those with active sales, but I didn't see a notation of that in the blog post.

I recommend you connect with auctions@godaddy.com. If you run into that scenario for number 2, please feel free to give me a heads up, too.

As it says in the blog, unactioned offers will be removed on May 13th, so it's recommended you initiate the transaction by that point. If it's a pending transaction, then it's given time, and it's something you should connect with the support team for. As I say, keep me in the loop if that happens for you.

And speak of the Devil, I have a pending sale at GD where the 15-day limit for me to cancel hits on May 1. Whodathunkit, eh?

Why are there so many freaking domain deadbeats out there?
 
It looks like the GoDaddy-to-Afternic transition may unofficially be taking place today, as this morning I noticed 3 new leads/offers on my Afternic account as well as several old leads that had switched brokers. There is definitely some activity at Afternic.

Who knows how it's all going to work out, but I'm certainly not going to miss that enforced multi-click GD login that I have to do every morning.

I saw that all the GoDaddy listings were all deleted yesterday, so at lunch today I decided to test how the new "List on Afternic & Search on GoDaddy" system was working. But after entering over 20 of my domains, I could not find a single one available through GD search.

Somewhere in the early-20's I finally located one of my domains and I randomly found a few others later, but the vast majority seem to be missing from search.

Is this process ongoing or is there something I need to do in order to get my Afternic domain listing to show up on GD search?

Also, I got an inquiry in mid-April from a Jasraj Sidhu at Afternic (I confirmed he had a GD email) looking to optimize my Afternic portfolio and add in any missing domains. So I sent him my domain list and haven't heard anything back so I'm wondering if a) this guy is legit and b) is still working for GD/Afternic.
