A while back I was contacted by the company above running under

mmca.associates using the email address info@mmca.associates

I quoted 2.5k for the domain and said it was a limited time offer.
I have since been contacted numerous times via broker, afternic etc and each time I quoted 5k because the initial offer of 2.5k had expired.

I received another offer last week and I requoted the 5k and I was politely turned down.
The offer was from a generic gmail address so I cannot say if it was the same people but I decided to visit the website and saw they are now using https://mmcaassociates.ca for the main website and info@mmcaassociates.ca for email.

The mmca.associates is also still functioning.

Again a company that failed to see the value in a direct match url for 2.5k
Even the 5k I am asking now is a bargain for a direct hit url.

That is a problem with a lot of these big companies. Some of the people at the top have no idea the value of a domain name.

I recall reading an article on the owner of VPN.com and why he paid a hefty 6 figure price for it. That guy knew the value and knew the extra added value and income it will bring towards his business.

I always like to explain in child like sentences for people who have no idea about domain names. I normally say that a great short domain name is equivalent to a store in a great location. A long hard to remember name is more equivalent to a store out in the boonies that nobody visits.

.....and no one can remember..

Is there a way to check the age/creation date of an email address?

So very true. It's kind of ironic how you got professional CPA companies like this one who don't seem to understand the value, and then you got companies like GTARestoration buying blackmold.ca just to secure a keyword.

Exactly.. He who gets it, Gets it!

I contacted a big company offering to sell guardian.ca. The word "guardian" is in their company name. The response offer was $200. LoL.

For a different one-word short .ca I got a high five-figure offer.

You're lucky as the standard offer I get for a premium 1-word is $20. Like what kind of brainless moron offers $20 for something whose base value is ~$15 for a junk hand-reg, not counting the 15-20% commission, and actually expects to get it?

My favorite are the guys who counter with $25... like that extra $5 is going to sweeten the pot and get me to cave. I realize these are lifeless knobs, but it still speaks to the trend that Canucks don't just want a domain for nothing, they want you to pay for it and then give it to them.

Canadian companies are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cheap.

Guardian is a very nice name *THUMBSUP*
...and also wanted to say welcome to DN.ca!

I am going to have a hard time saying Cathedral because I know this member fairly well.
He joined on my invitation, he owns a lot of great domains and he sold me a very nice LL.ca

I will not say any more because if he wants to share he will do so on his own.

Welcome aboard [notify]Cathedral[/notify]

Welcome aboard. Guardian is a great domain! And yeah, that's the problem with outbound, even if they do "get it" and understand the value, they may not be in a position to move on it at that moment. Just be careful about contacting companies with Guardian in the name and the CDRP implications.

What we need is Leonardo DiCaprio to implant the seed so they think it was their idea, Inception style, lol.

Ouch!! lol Did you respond back to them? I normally respond back with 2 well known “recent .ca sales” URL’s just so they know the true value of it. Also, excellent name.

I did a direct-contact campaign several years ago to potential Canadian buyers. I spent about 3K all told. I concluded I'd be better off to wait for offers, assuming that some would at least know enough about domains to make a decent offer. Domain value should be general knowledge for people in business, not just internet business, but too often it's not. Great domain sale stories make the news headlines (not as much as in years past), but I guess not everybody likes news.

Fully agree on that. But who is to blame? Registry? Registrars? Domain Investors? Unreported sales? Lack of knowledge? Anything else that comes to mind??

Other than some of those, Lack of Competition is certainly a factor. Canada is a country almost entirely comprised of monopolies and oligopolies.

And you know how that works out:
