Singular vs Plural (1 Viewing)

As long as there have been domains there has been talk of singular vs plural and which one is the higher value.

I traditionally buy singular but occasionally I pick the plural when it makes more sense.

When I weighed buying holidays.ca I checked and holiday.ca was nicely developed.
I figured for resale the plural made more sense to me so I ended up with it.

There is another domain I HAD my eye on and it is dentists.ca which is owned by [notify]Rocmary[/notify]

It appears the singular is owned by a domainer and simply forwards to dentists on the yellow pages.

With that domain I am kind of torn if I would want the singular or plural, so I am basically back to step one debating with myself again.

Opinions on this from anyone?
 
Dentist and dentists are both very tricky. If you were to verbally tell me that your website is dentists.ca, I would probably type in dentist.ca. I believe in this instance, I prefer dentist over dentists. The “s” close to the end of both dentist and dentists make the name itself tricky. When you say either holiday or holidays, there is no mistake that you said holidays with an “s”. Make sense?
 
Dentists.ca is a great name for development. I think in this case the plural has more value than the singular version.

As for most names, I do believe the singular is more valuable unless the plural makes more sense.

For example, shoes.ca is likely much more valuable than shoe.ca
 
Also, we do not own Dentists.ca we are brokering the domain on behalf of the owner.

Great name at a great price.

In the dentist case, I think either the singular or plural is awesome. Google returns 227M for dentist and 79M for dentists. Both are plastered with ads. I think shoe vs shoes is different, in that you buy a pair of shoes, not a shoe. Just like jellybean vs jellybeans :)

I'd be happy to own either versions of dentist.
 
Also over 20,000 dentists registered with the Canadian Dental Society.
 
Either one is very good.
I guess it would come down to what you were going to use it for that would be instrumental in determining a value.

I guess he figured that it worked so well with gummies, why not try it again! :lol:

But kudos to you Rob! Contrary to what some people may believe, not all domainers are Aholes. :)

Jellybean could also be used as an accounting firm, you know they're all a bunch of bean counters *ROFL*
