I was trying to look at the value of some 3 word .com's and thought I would punch in a popular website into Estibot to see what the potential value would be. I punched in PlentyofFish.com and immediately got a trademark notice.

That got me to thinking about how much money we could save newer members in registration fees if there was a registrar that did similar. So instead of blindly registering amazon or google domains a newbie would immediately see that resale is limited because of a trademark.

Personally I think all registrars should do this and someone needs to get the ball rolling.

Rarely use Estibot but I agree that is a good idea *THUMBSUP*

That is a great idea.

On a side note, the original owner of PlentyofFish is from BC. I believe he sold it a few years for mid 9 figures.

Yup, after a quick search. It sold for $575,000,000.

I remember inquiring years ago about pof.ca just for fun. The previous owner wanted 8K for it. I’m guessing he sold it for around that amount as it is now owned by PlentyofFish.

On another side note, I sold FreeDating.ca many years ago for $2000. Looking back, I kick myself everyday. I use to run a dating site on it but I didn’t put any time into it so just ended up selling the domain.

I have dropped several domains in the dating niche since they didn't get any traffic and was taking up space and cost. I noticed a few get caught in the TBR dropsand then parked again.

I believe it would be useful in the right hands every time I sell one. So I make peace with myself that way and don't worry too much.

$575Million. That's some change. I wonder if they ever got their money back!

That’s more than I made yesterday!

They haven’t yet as I don’t believe the revenue is not in the 9 figures and it sold less than 6 years ago I believe.
