Mane.ca is now officially my top pick for this weeks TBR

Just a little word of advice on Mane, as I put it on my pick list the minute it hit the TBR and had high hopes for it. Initially it looked good in terms of brand use and potential new startup adoption, but the more I deep-dived the worse it looked, especially as I assumed a lot of newbs would be running the price up.

It turns out the vast majority of brand usage is a 2-word play on "Main XYZ" and doesn't use "Mane" a primary brand or even utilize it as a single-word. Mane Event, Mane Attraction, Mane Street, Mane Frame, Mane Station, Mane Stage, etc. etc. etc. Even a lot of the non-Main uses are 2-words, Lion's Mane, Color + Mane, etc.

Plus I've never had good luck selling homonyms, as they don't pass the "radio test" and therefore don't attract "big business".

So while it is still a nice 1-word if you can get it inexpensively, as the price goes up, it acquires an ever-thicker veneer of Fool's Gold.

I can't imagine someone had an active business under this domain name.

haircutmenwinstonchurchillmeadowvalemississaugaon.ca

But now operate under a much better domain for their website: SportClips.ca

I've seen this "keyword stuffing" crap many times before and it's likely due to some idjit SEO guy telling them to use that type of domain name "to get more Google links and higher placement".

One real estate agent inquired about a first-name domain I own, and was running on some horrible keyword stuffed, hyphenated monstrosity and kept parroting to me that "it pays for itself with all the Google clicks I get". :D

I got Clips dot ca if they want it to make it even shorter.

I was able to put backorder for 3s on MyID.

even as an acronym its long... 😂

not a great week, again.

I initially thought it would be better just based on the domains, but a lot (like Mane) turned out to be all or partially-Fool's Gold, so we're left with a pretty mangy set of low-end domains to pick through.

And since I know I'm already out the race for 3S.ca, this is the first week in forever when I'm not even remotely excited about the TBR run and really don't care if I win or lose the tiny set of min-bid orders I'm probably going to place... probably... maybe... who knows (y)(n)

But someone found a domain worth $1200 to bid on.

It's either 3S or some corporate domain that was dropped and they're very intent on getting it back. Seen that tons of times, where a junk domain with little marketability goes #1 at a high price just to make sure the firm gets it back.

There is no name on that list (unless it's a 3S-named company buying 3S.ca) that might be worth $1300.

NamesPro - they hide it unless you also have a bid on the same domain.

P.S. The next-highest bid on the list was $30.01.

lol, when was the last time namespro even caught anything other than pure junk? I haven't bothered to bid there in a looong time. Pure waste of time.

They used to pick up the odd top domain (maybe 1 in 10) but since WHC and MyID have upped the arm's race, NP is now officially an also-ran when it comes to getting a top TBR domain. WHC and MyID just bury everyone.
