TBR Drop - Mar 12, 2025 (23.Viewing)

start your engines…

It's truly insanity right now and domains that you'd probably get for $18 on another week, are already being bid up to 3-figures. This always happens when there are multiple premiums fueling the hype, as the rubes seem to get gold fever for even the mid-range domains. Maybe they're ex-Pokemon card investors and they "gotta catch 'em all!".

You'll be swell, you'll be great
Gonna have the whole world on a plate!
Starting here, starting now
Honey, everything's coming up roses!

It's gonna be fun to watch to see how this insanity progresses through the auctions, but I think it's appropriate to post my off-used adage here:

Buying domains is easy, it's selling them that's hard.

Auctions for WHC are restricted from Mexico

Sporadic login issues and when i bid i get errors.

Seriously, this is the same issue i had at godaddy, whenever i travel it keeps thinking someone else is trying to use the account.

Its so frustrating that i cannot just confirm my identity and bid freely from outside of Canada.

Well i guess im saving quite a bit of money this week.

They do that so the teeming masses of 3rd world scammers can't log in and freely steal your valuable domains.

Geo-blocking can be bothersome when travelling, but it does stop billions of dollars in losses to online fraud. So I accept it, especially where online banking is concerned.

Well i will be a dedicated domainer by September, i am done with the grind but i will be domaining from tropical locations so the auction houses will lose out.

That said i am doing most of my buying from members of DN via dm now anyways.

I simply tell them to contact me when they need quick cash for a nice one word.

So when I switch to AT@T roaming data I can access the auctions no issue.
On any of the Mexico networks so far I cannot, which is similar to my DomainEasy issue which also restricts Landers on Wifi in Mexico.

I am in the hotel district so I can pick from numerous networks and so far the restrictions seem to be from all networks I have tried but not on roaming data.

I have a Canada/USA/Mexico plan so no issues now that I know but I thought it was important in case anyone is going on holidays planning to participate in the auctions. Please make sure you have a good data plan.

You're braver than I for logging into your accounts through a free-wifi in a foreign country.

I was just going to post that and I would seriously NOT do any banking via WIFI while you're on holidays.

I use Adguard VPN, and Adguard DNS, etc etc. I have all the bases covered on that end.

That said, I don't even use credit cards, I'm all cash when I'm travelling so no need to log into banking.

Exactly.

Personally, I think Circle.ca is going to hit 5-figures at auction, as you don't see core domains like this hitting the TBR. It's a generational drop.

FYI, traffic.ca once sold for $15,000 CAD, back in 2006. It looks like theweathernetwork might have bought it thinking they would use it for driving/traffic reports?? (based on archive.org).

So yes, lots to choose from this week.
What's going to be the big one? Render? Magical? Circle? Traffic? One of the LLL's? the two char? Will an unknown come out of nowhere?

You can always tell how many newbs have been attracted to the TBR auctions by how many people think they can win at WHC by outbidding everyone else at the pre-order stage. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Very true. But I always used to think, that I was once there too - 25 years ago.
It's happening elsewhere too. Rate-cut is boosting morale on cheap-money.

I know, but the end result is higher and higher consumer debt in Canada.

I've also been reading about loan shark-level companies buying up consumer debt from retailers and manufacturers, then jacking up the interest rate and extending the payment period. Some of the numbers are insane and they're preying on the most vulnerable Canadians.

$1000 for beerfest. way more than I thought it would go for.

To see the prices on last week's pile of crap names, I can't even imagine what's going to happen this week when there is actually something premium to bid on.

And where is all this money coming from, and for what purpose, as none of these prices match my experiences in the .CA retail market.
