Could someone please explain the value they saw in this "snug.ca" domain? Am I missing something?

Domain prices are very hard to justify and someone was very much attached to that domain and was willing to pay a price to snug it Or was it the people from snugit.ca who wanted it.. who knows..

As others have said, it's all subjective. I didn't realize one of the official meanings was a small private room at a pub, and there IS a local "the snug" pub. There are lots of "snug" references around here ("snug harbour"), but to me the connotations are warm and comfortable. It's also used (as Frank might be suggesting) as "tight fitting" in the clothing world. In MY mind it was a short easily pronounced and remembered domain with positive connotations. Whether it is an easily re-sold domain is another question. Congrats (and thank you) to the new owner! - Tom

Tom, @bmetal you came that close to answering my prayer - to know who the new owner was. But nvm.

You did mention something and that is to thank the new owner - which is something I salute you for. When was the last time any of the winning Registrar was willing to thank the highest bidder openly in a public forum. You have made a huge impact in that regard and you are known for such out of the box thinking. I commend you for that and would this be a trendsetter?

With about 90 minutes left, I was the leading bidder and felt fairly confident no one was gonna throw out another bid.

While it was out of my price range at that point, I also lost track of the end price because I got sidetracked with a developer calling and wanting to show me a mock-up. Afterwards I clicked on it and the auction was gone - I assumed $3K won it, but thanks @silentg for posting the final tally.

Busy, busy week, and it's quite easy to get sidetracked with just normal stuff, then add in the upcoming Thanksgiving long weekend.

It's just a short, positive, popular, aged (last seen in 2005) word with a positive connotation and potential use in multiple markets, especially something like clothing or specifically winter apparel. Bedding/covers/duvets, energy, heating/HVAC, etc. are other uses that come to mind, and you can pretty well use it for anything that you want to project a warm, happy and safe feeling about.

It's just one of those words, that if a company really, really wants it, then you want easily make them pay for it because it makes business sense. Singular 1-words are hot right now and short word domains are where the real money comes in - and that's where the domain whales play. Companies want a shorter domain, while still maintaining the core brand, as it's easier to remember and exudes prestige in advertising and promotion.

Now as Tom at @bmetal states, whether it gets resold or not is up to the domain gods, but Snug.ca is the kind of word ca you can make bank on, as opposed to something like SnugWinterwear.ca, which you just hope to just get a pity bid on.

For those that are from the GTA (greater Toronto area), you probably have been to Snug Harbour in Mississauga. That’s what comes to mind when I think of Snug. A great place to eat right on the water. Great domain and great price for it as well.

My earliest memory of the word Snug is when I was a little kid going to bed, my parents would say "Sleep well and stay snug as a bug in a rug".

I just looked up that saying and apparently it was first introduced in a Shakespearian celebration play from 1769.

To those of you (if any) that are bidding UDM.ca up to $1700 at CD, let me know if you are interested in the companion UOM dot ca

Be happy to part with it for the same price you pay for UDM ;)
