TBR Musings - December 9, 2020 (1.Viewing)

I would think the majority of .ca sales are not reported.

I know, but my point was that every time there is a big public .CA sale (especially on Namebio) it tends to freak out the newbies and gets them spending like drunken sailors.

To whit, the high bid on NamesPro was a whopping $2,799.

didn't put in for anything in Dec 9 TBR.

Smart man.

And naturally, CreditReport.ca goes to MyiD, as did JED.ca, Overtime.ca, Tierone.ca, Interline.ca, and HedgeFunds.ca

Siber managed to get Podcast.ca.

That has somewhat been the case for domains in general for the past 15 years. That said, I haven't seen people "spending like drunken sailors" on .ca's for the past year.

Well, RLM seems to be in the same boat as I am, watching middle-of-the-road domains hitting mid to high 3-figures on MyID, and wondering what the heck is going on.

I just don't see the endgame there, because if sell-through is 1-2% of a portfolio, then you need to sell each of them for $35K to $75K minimum just to break even, and $50K-$100K each to make a feasible annual ROI.

I just don't see that as realistic for .CA.

As for me this week, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Got totally blanked at the top-end stuff I was looking at, which all went to MyID, and again Siber seems to have had a "mid-run lull" where the stuff I wanted went to other registrars I had them preordered at. In fact, I missed exactly ONE of my sneaky picks, and that was Heenan.ca, which I assume RLM snagged.

Had that preordered at Siber, but as usual they pulled another boner after hitting Podcast.ca at the top. Siber again showed a good initial sprint, but had no stamina for the long haul.

The prices of .ca's have been ebbing and flowing for 20 years. For many of the larger .ca investors, they have been acquiring domains during the past 10 - 20 years and have mostly bought at lower prices and have accumulated fairly low-cost portfolios. which makes sales multiples very attractive.

You're preaching to the choir, that's why I posted those numbers.

Paying $350-$750 for middling TBR domains is a quick way to go bankrupt.

pretty cool sibername got podcast

But unfortunately, not much else.

It was another *very* strong week for MyID, which took 10 out of the top 13 picks.

*ROFL* been there

I only put in for one name for the min and was surprised no one outbid me

Then I realized the name doesn't expire until next week *WALL*

Wasn't me, I chose not to go after it at all. I went skiing today, but did place some orders last night and figured, whatever, I'm not overly excited about any of the big name domains anyways.

Strange, as I was sure it was you. I really wanted a shot at Overtime and thought I had a real chance at Interline, but otherwise, meh!

Even so, it looks like I robbed the discount store again this week (just like last week) which kinda takes the sting away from MyID stealing all of the premiums except Podcast.

At some point Siber/WHC has to get their act together.

haha NorthKorea was one of my drops. It was in with a batch of names I bought last year with $1 codes. 4 others that I didn't renew were backordered by others this round

I wanted a shot at Overtime as well but nada for me as well.

Too bad they didn't grab it, already almost double that on Myid.

Gee, big surprise there.

Bidding at MyID is like boxing with ghosts, you take a lot of shots but you never really hit anything.
