Well, well, well.. Will we have a break or not??

Screen-Shot-2022-05-26-at-11-48-34-PM.png

I see a huge number of 2005 domains dropping this week and nothing much in the way of 3/4 characters - but that is until now.

Will we have another dump?? Let's see..

It seems like a lot of Pandemic Petes who took part in the top-end of the TBR over the last 2-3 years, are dropping a lot of their stock. I've been seeing this trend hitting throughout 2022, and some of the domains were not cheap purchases at auction.

I guess the "Get Rich Quick" plan didn't work out, so it's obvious many are just dropping their .CAs and probably buying into something else. As we've said many times, .CA is not .COM (or even .IO or .XYZ) and using the strategy of "outpaying everyone" for TBR .CA domains is a losing one.

If you're in it for a profit, 99.5% of the time how much you pay at wholesale is more important than the quality of the domain.

bcash.ca (Bitcoin Cash) is dropping for anyone who invests in crypto domains.

Not much else *NO*

I was looking over last week's TBR Picks and noticed that PlanetHoster was back in action, and as I still can't find a way to order TBR domains through them, I was wondering if anyone else knew what was up?

EDIT:

I just called them up and no one there has any clue they are ordering TBR domains, and even more curious, two domains they won last week, thecharter.ca and cwsa.ca, are both live sites. Hmmmmmm

Try emailing domains@support.planethoster.info.

I've contacted a dozen or so registrars in the past and only WHC/Siber and MyID had frontline customer service reps that knew what TBR was.

Come on, a lot of them have TBR front-ends and at the very least, an explanation of the TBR and how it works on their site.

MyID, Burmac/Dot-CA, NamesPro, Baremetal, Webnames, CanSpace, etc. etc.

PlanetHoster has absolutely nothing on their website pertaining to the TBR or TBR ordering, and the fact that none of their support people had a clue is just the cherry on top.

Now Websites.ca is more in line with what you're talking about, as it doesn't even seem to have registrar features and have no info regarding the TBR.

These "new TBR players" are getting sketchier by the day.

registrars are grabbing domains for themselves?

I think it's more they are using the TBR for their own purposes, possibly filling clients needs when the right domain pops up or adding to existing online development services with cheap TBR pickups.

The fact that the two top domains picked up by PlanetHoster now resolve to live websites not even 5 days later is testament to that theory, as how else could it happen?

well, obviously not illegal in the sense that the rcmp are going to arrest you, but against the terms of the registrar agreement, so they could be subject to being decertified as a registrar by CIRA if they didn't have a good explanation as to what they are doing.

In my defense (and ignorance), I can count on one hand how many registrars I've used for TBR. Whenever I've mentioned TBR and the customer support has no clue, I just assume they're outsourced and going off a knowledge panel.

I totally agree with you, though. If PlanetHoster is actively acquiring domains through TBR, they should have adequate information about the ordering process. The fact you called and still got no answer speaks volumes about their brand.

A while back I made a post about CatchyDomains which was on CIRA's registrar list. I had a hunch they were using the platform for their own gain because their website had virtually no information, let alone a place for TBR purchases. Interestingly enough, they've since been removed from the list. Fishy? I don't know. :|

I was kinda playing it a bit because unless there are real consequences there will always be people that will bend the rules as much as they can get away with. MyID anyone?

Pretty much that, yeah.

Relying a lot on CIRA to see and monitor everything, which I very much doubt they do or want to do.

Looks like megan.ca will be this weeks top pick.

For a while it looked like anis.ca was going to be a top pick and that would almost have been a sh*t show.
