Hi all. My first post here.

Recently made friends with a Canadian who has since retired down here in Mexico. Turns out they have owned a common three letter first name .ca domain for many years. They're wondering what it might be worth and what the market for such domains are.

I'm not familiar with the .CA market but told them that I'd ask. Wholesale and retail ranges welcomed.

Thank you.

Well just a quick appraisal here without diving too deep. I would say the value here is not based on it being a name. I think the value is more on it being an acronym.

I would say as a wholesale price (reseller) it would be mid $xxx to very low $x,xxx.

Retail is a bit tricky, but I would say mid $x,xxx to high $x,xxx.

Thank you. Was thinking both would be a smidge more, but again, I have no experience with .ca domains.

The .CA market is not like any other market. It is also not very liquid and sales are not as active as in .com. I provided a realistic appraisal for you. That doesn’t mean it can’t sell for more. As each domain is unique as I’m sure you’re aware.

Totally understand and am glad I asked. I didn't want to steer them wrong on expectations.

It depends on how long you want to wait. It's certainly a popular acronym and I think low five-figures is definitely in play if you don't need to sell the domain tomorrow.

Welcome aboard Kellie

It's tough to value the domain without knowing what it is.

The thing about domain names is they are all technically worth in the 10-$15 dollar range until you find an end user. The value is then determined by how badly the end user wants the domain. So technically all domain valuations are speculative, meanwhile the best you can hope for is someone that puts the highest speculative value on the domain until an end user is found.

Here is where I am currently pricing a 3 letter .ca

PS,: I find the long term value at Graen Appraisals to be one of the more accurate appraisal services for .ca

I consider the short term more near wholesale and the long term so so accurate for current value.

Again, discretion is advised but the folks there are decent for establishing value.

ehm.... The appraisal for ana.ca seems a bit off

They value it higher than red.ca which certainly shows you the limitations of these automated appraisal services :ROFLMAO:

all appraisal services are garbage

Not garbage per se, but more the fact that it's absolutely impossible to predict the price of an end user domain sale. But then again, if multiple domain valuation services states that Domain A is worth between $0 and $100, while Domain B is worth between $250K and $500K, you might want to look at closer at Domain B.

Like those "experts" who predict for sports gambling - they're wrong a lot of the time, but there is still valuable info to be gleaned from their analysis.
