What is the value of the ".ca" domain name (cc tld)? what would you pay to have that license from GoC? worth nothing or how many millions?

FY21 Financial statements and disclosures

However, its all a moot point as it'll never be put up for competitive bidding. The establishment has too much to protect to allow that to happen.

That said, never say never, GoDaddy seems to have pretty deep pockets and I would not be at all surprised if some more ccTLD's would eventually be on their radar.

However, I think they will become involved with TBR first, I cannot see them missing out on that forever.
GoDaddy wants all auctions and the idea that they have to give up every dropping .ca has got to be grabbing their attention.

GoDaddy getting into TBR? - Sure, of course that's a distinct possibility. CIRA would love to sell them a hundred TBR connections, hell, CIRA's probably gone out of their way to sell that idea to Godaddy themselves!

FYI, In 2014 someone tried to convince the gov't that managing the .CA should be open to competitive bidding in 3-5 year terms - because he was claiming that CIRA had become a mandate creeping entity that was unfairly using .ca monopoly profits to start new ventures that compete directly with other canadian businesses. And I have to admit, I agree with that perspective. But obviously that idea got squashed like a bug before it got off the ground.

So will Godaddy ever get control of .ca? I'll bet money that doesn't happen - ever. But we obviously can't have any open ended for-ever bet, so I'll put up a $1000 against the first taker that it doesn't happen in the next 10 years!

I don't see it happening either because that would hand over control to a uniquely Canadain product to a foreign entity.

That said I would make you the same bet that godaddy will become involved in TBR in some way shape or dorm in your specified time period. Closed ccTLD's are becoming more profitable and I cannot see GoDaddy ignoring them forever.

.CA dropcatching for GoDaddy before entering .COM etc (gTLD) dropcatching? Seems unlikely to me, but who knows, I've been wrong before.

The important point is that CIRA claims it is a commercial not for profit that receives no government support or grants. Yet the government grants CIRA the license for free. Is that worth something? As much as VPN.com - more or less? But probably not $0, not worthless.
Furthermore, every one of the 170,000 corporations are commercial in nature - nor for profit but still run on business/commercial principles.
