Update: Thanks to Brad in the comments it appears the company does not own the domain name but was leasing it. So this makes some sense as they might not be able to ever own the domain name.
Because I was on vacation (Northern Ontario road trip) when this deal finally closed last week, I actually celebrated with a flight of Canadian whisky that night at M.I.C. Canadian Eatery & Whisky Pub in Sudbury. Gibson's 8 Year Old FTW!
Thanks. That podcast interview is worth listening to because it gives a really detailed view into how a company, that thinks strategically, rationalizes paying big money for a domain name. It was a pleasure working with such an intelligent and strategic client, and such a thrill landing them that amazing domain name.
On a related note, I just closed (as Buyer Broker) another similar big deal for a killer one-word .com, currently under wraps. I mention this because it's great to see buyers still investing big money on these domains even in the uncertain economic times of today. This one may be revealed near the end of this year or early next, depends on Buyer/Seller preference. Deal is currently in escrow and there's a brief migration period.
