I'm not sure what's up, but I tried a CIRA WHOIS lookup on a hyphenated domain, then I tried a pile of hyphenated domains that I know exist, but the CIRA WHOIS page keeps erroring out with:

"Sorry, hyphenated-domain.ca contains one or more invalid characters."

It looks like someone at CIRA misidentified the "-" as an invalid character in an update - anyone else get the CIRA WHOIS page to work? Hyphenated domain WHOIS seems to work at other .CA registrars, just not the CIRA page.

Nope as it's the CIRA WHOIS page with the problem and not the WHOIS system. Webnames and others worked fine for me.

Sorry, mercedes-benz.ca contains one or more invalid characters.
.CA domain names can only contain letters A through Z and numbers 0 to 9. You can also use hyphens in your domain name as long as they don’t appear at the start or end of the domain name.

Try searching again!

I honestly thought that it was a browser issue and did not make it an issue. But this has been there for over a week now. CIRA did know about it and took this long to fix it?? Feels a bit strange to me. May be they don't want DomainRecap @DomainRecap to corner the market. LOL

Yep, it looks like the CIRA fixed it.

Now off to mass-register all those sweet, sweet hyphenated domains.
