A Closer Look: Self-Brokerage at Afternic

Following on from key releases in 2025 including domain resubmission tool, comes Self-Brokerage.

With Self-Brokerage, domain sellers can engage directly with buyers from Custom Lander leads to facilitate a domain sale.

Utilize your negotiation skills, deep knowledge of your domain names, along with the tools and expertise provided to members of GoDaddy’s Discount Domain Club’s top tier to achieve successful domain sales.

By employing an interface modeled after Afternic’s Lead Center, users have the capability to oversee active negotiations and engage directly with prospective buyers. Key features of Self-Brokerage at Afternic include:

  • Dedicated Platform: We’ve combined the strengths of Afternic, Uniregistry, and Dan.com to launch a new Self-Brokerage platform, making it effortless to track and negotiate leads received via the Custom Lander.
  • Direct Communication: Take charge of your negotiations with personalized, direct communication with buyers through Self-Brokerage. Each negotiation features a comprehensive timeline of messages and key events from start to finish.
  • Real-time Updates: Stay in the loop with instant message notifications. Both you and the buyer will receive updates in real-time, ensuring seamless communication.
  • Buyer Experience at GoDaddy: Buyers can enjoy direct negotiations through their own version of Self-Brokerage, hosted at GoDaddy, enhancing their confidence throughout the domain purchase process.
  • Broker-backed: At any point, you can call upon our expert brokers to assist in closing a deal – at no additional cost.

Once a sale is agreed upon and the buyer pays, our Transaction Assurance system will handle the closing process, with standard commission fees applicable.

It's only available to DDC members:

"with standard commission fees applicable." So it's still 15%, 20%, 25% depending on your nameservers, using Boost, etc?

After making the work less for them by doing your own brokering.

Amazing the length of a post and steps they have to do to explain it. Even a video made on how to set it up. With Dan it was just simple and intuitive.

I will guarantee you the communication is monitored like on Sedo. No communication of personal details etc.
I wouldn't have an issue with this if fees were lower and DDC wasn't required. Right now it's all take and no give.

My take on Afternic Self-Brokerage

by AbdulBasit Makrani
Finally Afternic launched one of the most requested features: Self-Brokerage. I wasn’t expecting any gamechanger because I’ve already used a better version at Uniregistry in the past and know how it works.

With the Afternic Self-Brokerage available now, I think it’s not going to benefit the domain owners but only Afternic. There are a several reasons why:

1) Currently without the Self-Brokerage enabled, the buyers are shown a form where they need to enter their name, email address and phone number. With SB enabled, the potential buyer has to sign-in to a GoDaddy account to submit the form or create an account before proceeding any further. This extra layer will push many serious buyers out of the way because not many are willing to create an account just to submit a simple form. I can understand that Afternic will say that this will bring in quality leads but why miss the others who are genuine but are not willing to create an account with GoDaddy upfront but possibly create one after the successful domain purchase.

Have a catalog that uses mostly Afternic for landers and out of curiosity I placed a mock offer on one of my domains almost a week ago. I understand it was not a legitimate offer and there is a slight possibility Afternic flagged it but I got no notification that there has been any action on that domain.

I thought, that sucks I'll go in and set it to self brokerage and turned out I forgot you had to be a discount club member to use that.

I'm not paying for discount club when I can still register domains cheaper than what I can after paying hundreds of dollars for discount club, that seems kind of absurd.

So who gives up all control on their domains and lets the brokers from Afternic handle all their correspondence with potential clients? DO you trust them to thoroughly follow up all your leads?

Well let me tell you from experience it leaves a lot to be desired. Now compare it to SAW where you can be self brokered but the system still sends out AI generated reminders to people that have inquired months later. Not only can I follow up but so does the system for long forgotten contacts. In fact one of the contacts actually responded and re-initiated negotiations. I get all, the contact info, full email etc.

In my opinion nothing beats saw, atom is too cluttered for me and DomainEasy holds back MY client contact information.

It gets me to wondering why on gods green earth so many domainers are not only paying so much commission but also giving up all contact information. Then you see the system on the other end actually ignores contact requests and it makes me shake my head. I don't understand it, one of my catalogs runs exclusively on my own landers, the other one sits at Saw and the last one sits on mixed marketplaces like Afternic, Dynadot, Atom, etc.

If I look, my personal contact form is the absolute fastest and gives me an insane fast response. I continue to favour it and saw.

If anyone wants to try my contact form they can use the mock link below and if you use a real email address I will forward you the results page so you can see what it looks like.

mapledots.ca/inquire/?mockdomain.ca - use a real email address and I will forward you the form results, take your time to fill in all fields with any info you like but make it look realistic so you get nice results back.

This is why I have just created my own site: domaine.solutions, which is not finished yet because I am a beginner in website creation, but the goal is to have my own contact form.

Your site looks good, just drop a favicon.ico into your main directory and fix this domain you accidentally have .ca twice.
