Don’t use a funky spelling in your domain name (1.Viewing)

It might come back to bite you.

Earlier this month, The Financial Times wrote a story about an asset management firm that changed its name from Aberdeen to Abrdn. Apparently, the company’s CEO made the switch partly because the Aberdeen.com domain he wanted was in use by another company.

An outside marketing firm warned him against dropping the vowels and wanted its name disassociated with any rebranding.

Indeed, dropping the vowels was a mistake. (That CEO is no longer with the company.)

There are lots of successful sites using branded misspells, it just depends on if its memorable.

You can brand something with a tagline like one I registered.

There certainly are successful ones out there, but now you have to educate the public instead of it being intuitive, and that takes time and money too.

I think the double i dots look like umlauts as if it were some German thing, from a quick glance or from a distance you might think Prüde ?
