I think I must have cost a few millions in Auction (1.Viewing)

Same could be said for TBR

Exactly and there seem to be people out there who will literally pay anything to win premium domains.

There were a couple that I really, really wanted and was willing to pay crazy money 'just because' but no matter how high I went I was always outbid. I don't know if it's OCD or the fact they're millionaires (or a combination of both) but even when I feel like paying 'stupid money', it's never stupid enough.

And even in regular bidding, very often I win absolutely nothing, but I'm still the second-place bidder on 50-75% the domains on my auction list, and third on the rest.

I think people get caught up in auctions way to often, when their emotions take over, they end up spending more than they should and sometimes more than the name is worth.

I think it goes deeper than that. I know people that have been forced to drop online auctions for collectibles cold turkey, simply because when they see something they want, they will literally bid whatever it takes. It's OCD and it's a bitch. And many pray on these people because they are an easy source of money - the gaming industry refers to them as 'whales' and microtransactions/loot chests were created specifically for this demographic.

Other angles include the 'pay the toll' bidder (Tony on X - who literally states this in his post above)) who will consistently bid their max on a wide range of domains, thereby ensuring no one gets a deal on his watch. Other place 'punishment bids' on proxies, hoping to push them to the max, or close.

But sadly, the end result is a spike in prices and a big win for the auction houses.
