Have you ever registered a domain and later asked yourself why?

I moved a few domains to another company and a newly minted domain sits at the top of the list and every time I see it I ask myself
" why on gods green earth did I register that? "

Has anyone else done that?

In my case I own a few bicycle domains like cycle, bike, etc and for some silly reason I registered bykr.ca

It looks wrong any which way I look at it and I know it's in use elsewhere as well but trying to keep my catalog in step with my personal tastes this domain seems to be taunting me somehow. I see it at the top whenever I log in, whenever I change screens, it does not matter where I look in my control panels that domain winks at me, smiles and says.... hey there buddy, look at me!

Anyone else have something similar?

The only other time I had that is when I had a sex domain 4sex.ca and it really was not my style, it bothered me to even have it in my catalog.

there was always a reason, sometimes you just forget.

  • backlinks or traffic that has since tapered off
  • you were taking it off the market because you own a better variant, i.e. brand protection
  • was a trendy term once upon a time
  • you heard a new term watching the news and you jumped on it only for it to never take off
  • you saw a sale under another tld and reg’d the CA
  • you noticed all the other similar keyword variations were reg’d
  • you were drunk/high and thought it sounded like a good brandable at the time
I’m guessing the latter on Bykr 🤣

I remember there was a domain someone used to own and suddenly a buyer had emerged looking for it. The previous owner posted a buy request on here and I as I now owned the domain, I responded back. But it turned out to be a mis-spell (he probably got the inquiry on the phone and just phonetically heard the domain - think Biker and Byker) and the potential buyer couldn't reach the mystery owner of this non-word/phonetic domain.

Then a year or so later that same domain drops - I watched it expire and decided to register it. Who knows, right?

Fast forward maybe 2 years later (with zero interest) and I'm going through my renewals and immediately I see it and think "Why the hell did I register that piece of crap" before immediately remembering the story above.
