The city of Kitchener who owns Kitchener.ca bought that domain.

live.kitchener.ca or kitchener.ca/live would have done the same for free

I would never have hand registered that domain ever. Even if I knew the city had a big "Kitchener Live" program of some kind, I'd have assumed they'd never pay anything close to that, and that they would go with some other domain or subdomain. Maybe there is an interesting story behind the value of this domain, or just someone got lucky.
