Scraping NameBio To Build Competing Service - (4.Viewing)

I learned something and apologized for overreacting. It appears you have learned nothing, as you continue showing the 2025 data you took from us, and as soon as you finished writing this post you went and took two more days of data from our blog. Not intending to replicate, while copying and pasting, is crazy work.

To be clear, I have no issue with competition. What I have a problem with is not fighting a clean fight. Stealing from us and trying to undercut us with it, while expecting a hero's welcome talking about "mission" and "cause", is not that. It's delusion with a dose of Robin Hood complex.

This ordeal has definitely been a net-negative for the industry. In response, to protect our work I've had to limit the DailySales endpoint to one year instead of two, and removed the ability to select individual years in the Date Range menu. I also changed the Daily Market Report and Live feed to only include sales $500+ instead of all sales.

And what do the people get in return? An alternative with 2% of the data, all of which we already had because it was taken from us, and fewer search features. While presenting invalid sales, because you can't know when we catch rollbacks, cancelled auctions, and re-auctions. And missing backfilled data from Sedo, NameJet, social media, forums, friends, etc.

You seem to see us as a paid service with a free hook. But it's quite the opposite, we're primarily a sponsor-supported free service, with paid options for power-users. In the past 12 months more than 800,000 unique individuals from every country on the planet used our site many millions of times without paying us a dime.

You put a lot of work into creating a good offering, and got so close. But then you made a huge miscalculation by taking a last-minute shortcut trying to rip us off. It blows my mind that you would be so shortsighted, and care so little about having a good reputation, in such a tiny industry.

As long as you keep leaving up the 2025 data you took, and keep taking more, there is most certainly ill will. Hopefully some day you'll have the good sense to realize that you're not only adding zero value to the tracking and searching of sales data, you're actually detracting from it for hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

At least I can take solace in the knowledge that if you're incompetent enough to keep this up, you'll certainly run your "business" into the ground sooner rather than later, and we can go back to normal. I'm looking forward to that day more than I'm looking forward to you showcasing who you ripped off next.

Apparently Namebio is just playing mafia. They believe they own all public domain sales data even though you can sign up in less than a few days to all of the APIs directly from the sources, just like this tool and all the others out there. I wholeheartedly regret accepting their apology, and they really are in-fact just lying bullies who will smear and threaten you publicly and maybe ask questions later if they start catching too much public heat. What a roller coaster just to end at the same place I was trying to avoid.

These public fights don't benefit anyone, it's much better to resolve them via private dm.

Personally I find NameBio a chore to use, too many prompts asking me to verify who I am, so I basically avoid the site.

That said, they are the main reporting site and if you take the data from them to resell then you are pretty much scraping bottom too.
