Happy Holidays but not much more from Sedo!

Sedo is on the downswing posting on X about every 4 days.

Compared to competition like spaceship that's almost no social media presence.

It's hard to argue that X is the top place for domainers to meet and one can argue that X is now even more popular than NamePros when it comes to domaining news and interactions.

X is the easiest platform to drive traffic back to your site or blog and most savvy domainers use it to their full advantage whereas Sedo seems to be content to watch other platforms cannibalize their traffic and services.

PREDICTION: Sedo is going to be in trouble moving forward and the platform will wane as the months go by.

They haven’t had a strong social media presence for a long time. They use X mainly for promotions only. They do have a representative on NamePros for support.

Their posts are limited to weekly updates about their sales and auction promotions, and they skip reporting domain sales during holiday weeks.

It’s not only Sedo; others have the same issue. They need to hire people for social media who can be there for users whenever there’s a problem or just feedback.

I have recently moved the majority of my domains to DomainEasy for traffic stats + 0% commission (I do like the look of their landing pages as well). Although after reading this thread, and Bill's comments specifically, I am considering moving to SAW. After all, I actually also do like Saw.

But as much as these Atoms, Afternics, SAWs and Spaceships are being thrown around as hot new things, do they actually sell .CAs? If we only check reported .CA sales section of this forum, we'd see Sedo dominate the page. Not Saw, not Afternic, not Atom.

Downswing? Clearly not when it comes to .CA domains.

That leaves the most important questions of all. If most members here have .ca as a primary holding, why aren't more people hyping up Sedo instead of all these other players? Who cares about 7-figure .COM deals at Atom when it has nothing to do with .CA target market?

Sedo has a number of my domains listed like charge.ca that go to the previous owner yet are owned by me. I think charge is listed at 5k or something stupid it's been so long I don't even check anymore.

I tried getting Sedo to take them down years ago but they made me feel like I had to jump to their demands and do a lot of steps to get the domains removed. I ended up just leaving the domains there and because they resolve to my lander I never worried about it.

So a ton of the listings are ancient and no longer owned by the original owners. It looks great on Sedo to have them but 9 out of 10 times when I try to purchase a .CA there it is an invalid sale and a waste of my time.

The issue I have with public disclosure is I will report my ONE OFF sales but I learned my lesson after opening MapleDots using the Maple niche. Today Mike Mann and HugeDomains buy up every Maple.com because I hyped them when I bought hundreds of them. I did the same with LLCanada in COM and CA and other domainers copied my niche.

So my Maple niche is well known but I have others (fairly successful) that I do not disclose and they actually do fairly well. However if I disclosed the niche I would end up competing for the domains in TBR where right now all I have to do is wait and hand register them after the drop because they attract no attention. Meanwhile I have sold dozens of them.

I buy domains to use as sub domains as well and they only make sense once you add a prefix, I blogged about that a couple of times yet nobody has ever caught on so I am by myself with the sales. Should I publish the sales I would have everyone and their uncle going after my niche like with Maple.

So the reports on .CA sales for me are limited and I will report NON niche sale only, so trust me if I sell a nice one word for a million I will report it to boost .CA but so many domainers are making beginner mistakes.

SuperDomain.ca for sale at 10k

Today half price

Reduced to 2k

Buy 10 domains for 1k

$100 before TBR

Nobody wants SuperDomain.ca until an end user wants it, simply post it for sale at your 10k and leave it, an end user will find it when they Google it. Then after a few months bump it with a news article or something that makes the domain unique. Don't go discounting something for which you have not found an end user for yet. It's so silly to give away the profit before a potential client has even begun negotiations.

Then sit, one good sale can pay all renewals and if you double that every year after 5 years you have a viable business.

How does it become viable?

DON'T GIVE UP YOUR PROFIT BEFORE NEGOTIATIONS START

When you use their nameservers and TXT code for verification, removing old listings takes longer than adding them.

For buying domains through Sedo:
If you find a domain at good deal, hit BIN, choose wire transfer payment and don't pay right away, message Sedo through the transfer page to verify domain ownership.
