Companies seeking to acquire domain names may utilize a third party broker, often called a buyer’s broker, to facilitate the acquisition.

The process can be beneficial for the buyer as it requires all communications to be “proxied” through the broker, who is (usually) an expert in the field of domain negotiations.

Valuable domains in the hands of end-users or investors may receive dozens of such inquiries a month, often not disclosing the relationship to the party that would be the actual buyer. Some domain owners are known to be bombarded with emails from accounts such as female.name.1234@gmail.com and similar.
