Agreed, but to your other comment, I really don't see a lot of difference between WHC, BM and Grape auctions when it comes to true end-user domains. GoodLuck, Glace and Wanderlust did very well at BM last week (and MHL before that), and I think the "Traffic Sites" really skew everything, as these buyers are all degenerates flush with illicit gambling income.

If you just look at equivalent, high-end, end-user domain auctions, I don't see a huge gap.

But what does happen at WHC, is that a couple of knotheads will bid each other up into the stratosphere on mediocre domains. I just appreciate the sheer comedy of such bizarre auctions, and put it off to inexperience, though WHC does seem to attract this type of "drunken sailor" buyer.

I've bid high at whc, grape and bm if I wanted the domain. I think my highest bid on bm was for twitter.ca which I was going to use as a forward to my twitterX account. I bid 10k for it but decided that was the most I wanted to spend to promote my X account.

From my experience grape has never gone as high as some of the whc ones simply because there is not as much participation on that platform.

No joke, and stats put gambling among males of high school and college/university age at well over 90%. Virtually every young male in North America is gambling on something and it's causing all kinds of societal problems.

So degenerates like FanDuel are going to get uber-rich off the backs of our youth, while the rest of us are going to pay a massive toll down the road. It's very sad.

Kiddo.ca auction was delayed by a whole week due to holidays, in spite of me being the highest bid at the time, so I assume it may be both?
I wonder what happens if both Grape and Register receives equally high bids for commerce.ca — do they take it to an auction, or assuming Register technically grabbed it first, it goes to Register's bid..
 
From what I know and seen, there's only only one auction platform for all the Register/Grape/Fastweb group. They operate like WHC, Baremetal or MyID. Several queues but the same group. The irony is that, they operate under several names still, whereas the others have all merged into one. (Remember Baremetal had MyReg as their sister company and Pool having all kinds of very funny sounding names?)

So eventually Commerce.ca will merge out of one gate, and that is through Grape.ca - I believe. Willing to be corrected, if it happens any other way.

Had been doing this from Day 1 at CIRA which happens to be the 8th of Nov, 2000. Whoosh.. that's a pretty long time!!!
 
And Commerce.ca just hit at Grape, with an opening bid of $2100.

Yes, you are correct and the only difference is which registrar you end up at. Just watch out if you get Register.ca as their renewal rates are pretty scary.

The opening bid price used to be the highest bid on that particular domain, which I thought was pretty unfair for the high bidder. I guess someone (not me) complained and now it seems to be "highest bid + next bid increment" which I think is a lot fairer as high preorder bidders probably lost domains due to someone matching their top bid, not exceeding it.

For example, the closest available bid increment for preorders is $2000, so that $2100 represents a +$100 jump from the highest bid. Before, I believe the opening bid price would have been $2000.
