Always seems odd to me to technically see Canada twice

To be honest, it's not that bad. Likely a lot of consumers think in those terms (it projects "team Canada" card, being a part of a group). It's more strange to see larger organizations/institutions choosing:

tenniscanada.com instead of tennis.ca or at least a .ca

or

sportscientistcanada.ca instead of sportscientist.ca
