Almost 70% of the income generated from speed cameras goes directly to the company running the cameras and not the city. If 6 million is generated the city takes home 1.8 million less some miscellaneous expenses. Total figure estimated to be 1.5 million from the 6 million total.

Doug Ford said speed bumps, especially multiple bumps per street can be built for as little as $1,500 each with virtually no maintenance. Why should the average citizen be forced to contribute millions of dollars to a company running the cameras. One would argue that speed bumps are more effective in school zones because they force the diver to slow down. Three speed bumps versus one camera the safety data would show less accidents with the bumps as opposed to the cameras.

Why not can (or oversee) the corrupt city officials who created this profit-machine for the companies running and cameras, and design something where the municipalities will get a far bigger piece of the pie? Because a solid plan like this has is no money in it for those who select the suppliers.

This the problem with Canadian government right now, everyone has their hand out whenever a new contract or service comes up, and they're not looking for the best deal for us, they want the best deal for them. Public officials are even creating new and innovative opportunities (like garbage disposal and recycling) to accelerate the "new contract" cycle . No way some company just gets a "sweetheart deal" like this "speed camera 70% take" out of the blue - some of that 70% is due on the backend.

Ottawa is a poster child for this greed-filled insanity, and they're always picking sketchy companies for major projects, such as selecting some unknown "never built a train before" French fly-by-night operation for the Light Rail System, rather than going with established company (like the Finnish Stadler) who has been building trains for Scandinavian climes for well over 50 years and has a great track record.

And I think I know why.

Especially as the mayor and his cronies all retired after that lucrative endeavor, as well as a few others like Landsdowne 2.0, which all helped add to their retirement fund.

Yes, I know, Canada is now irrevocably broken and I need to just get used to it.
