This guy has no clue, and not only doesn't understand stock trading, he also is comparing something common like a stock to a domain name that is literally one-of-a-kind.

What he's proposing is one tiny step above an outright scam (like cold calling millionaires trying to sell a valuable painting that you don't even own) and I would not recommend taking his advice.
 
What DomainRecap @DomainRecap said. There are people that are doing this for expiring "related" domains for years, which I guess means it's working to some degree. But if something works it doesn't mean you should do it. Now if a registrar would suggest backorders to their existing clients based on their existing domains, that would be a different story.

I found the references to frontrunning interesting though, as frontrunning IMO rather means that a registrar registers domains that clients have only checked for availability on their own.
