Global Whois Query

So who owns a premium domain :ROFLMAO:

Nothing I typed in was premium

It's got to be from a registry where they like to claw it back and then play domain investor by raising the registration price, and often the renewal price as well.

Those are dangerous things to buy as some have registration and renewal rates of $10K or higher.

I'm flattered my tweet made a topic ;)

That particular tool, while I haven't tested it exhaustively, gives a quick indication if a domain has a registry premium registration and renewal fee. It's not judging the quality of domains :)

@jamesiles

I looked up a few and it seems that GoDaddy is not making mention or notation on these listings that the renewal prices could be thousands of dollars per year?

I know Dynadot also sells expired and auction registry premiums, but the renewal price is displayed on the listings page.

The renewal price is indicated during checkout.

Here is how Dynadot does it, with multiple areas on the listing page displaying the Registry Premium renewal prices, and IMO this is the proper way to do it. Everything is right out in the open without looking like you're trying to hide anything.

I believe DD was doing the same way as you guys (in the checkout) but changed due to massive complaints, refund requests and chargebacks when buyers discovered the ruse.

And if GD is going to sell Registry Premium domains at auction, you should be required to display this on each listing page, as how else will potential buyers know the Renewal Price when bidding?

Were you just typing in Com's, Net's, Org's or Ca's? This registries don't charge premiums. But if you look at XYZ, CO or some other new TLDs then those registries can and do charge premiums on a lot of names

Yeah, that is only going to result in negative thoughts about Godaddy's tactics. No one is going to feel positive about that interaction. No one. People will feel as if they were clickbaited or bait and switched or something to that effect. I would say that it's not a wise way to handle it. People will appreciate seeing it up front.
