VERIZON TRADEMARK SERVICES LLC
Plaintiff,
v.
VERIZON TRADEMARK SERVICES LLC, et
al.,
Defendants.

I need another cup of coffee.

When you've had that, check out the defendant's website:
Matt McMan

Yup his fair-use disclaimer aged well in court :ROFLMAO:

This bizarre case was way beyond your regular run of the mill good old cybersquatting, but it does set a pretty serious precedent.

Verizon has a history of taking this type of thing very seriously, if I remember correctly, they were the company that served a domainer doing traffic tasting and keeping some Verizon-related domains when they attended a domain conference.

I can't figure out what this Matt guy's end-game was. Unless he's just incredibly stupid, which I doubt. If I had to guess, I would guess he had some petty grievance against Verizon (real or imaginary) and this was how he sought 'revenge' ... which did not exactly work out well for him. Dude, seriously? Reminds me a bit of a conspiracy theorist nutter from years ago who would occasionally blast out emails to dozens of folks in the domain industry alleging all sorts of nefarious crimes committed by ICANN. Haven't heard from that nutter in a few years, thankfully. I might have bozo-filtered his email address, though, and perhaps he's still out there doing his thing.

Yeah, what is the angle?

This is one of the most ridiculous cybersquatting cases I have ever seen.

Its also possible that he got lucky with this strategy before and has gotten a little cocky and doubled down by doing it again. I've seen people do similar stupid things just because they got lucky once.
