This isn't my photo, but I had to double back when I saw it in-person. Tourism Cochrane (Cochrane, ON) is using the domain cochraneontario.travel. It seems that Cochrane, AB was able to register tourismcochrane.ca before they could.

Has anyone else seen .travel in the wild?
 
Another question – Did they have to purposely add the 'www.' to identify it as a web address?

You would have to or the average joe would never know it's a domain address.

What the heck is wrong with CochraneOntarioTravel.ca?

So if you're looking at length you have to weigh the www. to the .ca which technically still makes the .ca one character shorter.
